SEZO EMBARKS ON COMPLIANCE INSPECTION AT IMO INTERNATIONAL HEALTH SYSTEMS

NNRA’s South East Zonal Office (SEZO) carried out a compliance inspection at the Imo International Health Systems (IHS) Diagnostic and Radiotherapy Center also known as the American Cancer Centre, Owerri, on 6th October, 2021.

The facility has a fixed X-ray machine, two C-T Scanners, Cobalt-60 machine and a Mammography machine (yet to be fixed) also requires a compliance inspection.

The inspection led by Mr. Simeon Idakwoji, was to verify the facility’s IHS compliance with the requirements of the Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Act (NSRPA), the Nigerian Basic Ionizing Radiation Regulations 2003 (NIBRR), the Nigerian Diagnostic Radiation Regulations (NDRR) and the Nigerian Radiotherapy Regulations (NRR) 2006.

Also, the status of payment of applicable Authorization fees related to the various practice(s) carried out in the facility were checked.

The inspectors similarly verified compliance for license to design and construct site for the Linear Accelerator and Cyclotron Machines.

These routine Compliance Inspections are carried out by the Authority to ensure safety of patients, workers and the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation.
