RADIOLOGISTS SEEK STRONGER COLLABORATION WITH NNRA TO ENHANCE RADIATION SAFETY

A delegation of radiologists has paid a courtesy visit to the NNRA in Abuja to strengthen collaboration and reaffirm their commitment to radiation safety in the country.

The team, led by the President of the Association of Radiologists in Nigeria (ARIN), Dr. Ebbi Robinson, emphasized the need for closer cooperation between radiologists and the NNRA. He noted that effective partnership is essential to ensure the safe medical use of ionizing radiation across healthcare facilities nationwide.

In his response, the Director General of the NNRA, Dr. Yau Idris, commended the initiative and recalled that in 2005, the Authority—working in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)—organized training for radiologists with experts from Italy. He noted that with the significant increase in the number of radiologists in Nigeria, it is now timely to revive that partnership through renewed engagement, capacity building, and joint activities.

Dr. Idris further announced that the NNRA will establish a joint working group to coordinate training and strengthen professional collaboration. He added that involving radiologists in inspection processes would enhance operational efficiency and promote a stronger culture of safety across the sector.

Both parties agreed to maintain open communication and collaborate through seminars, workshops, and other joint initiatives aimed at promoting a unified approach to radiation safety and effective regulatory oversight in medical practice. Beginning in the first quarter of 2026, the NNRA will require ARIN to deliver quarterly presentations for the purpose of knowledge sharing.
