
The NNRA took part in the National Oncology Symposium and Dialogue on the Medical Use of Radioactive Substances in Nigeria, aimed at improving access to safe radiation technology, addressing human resource gaps, and strengthening cancer care nationwide.
Representing the NNRA was Mrs. Fatima Ige, General Manager, Medical Application Safety Department, on behalf of the Director General/CEO, Dr. Yau Idris. She highlighted the Authority’s mandate to ensure the safe use of ionizing radiation through licensing and inspection of medical facilities and showcased innovations such as the Safe X-ray App for promoting radiation protection.
Mrs. Ige also noted the NNRA’s collaboration with the IAEA and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) on the safe management of disused radioactive equipment.
The Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, commended the NNRA’s regulatory achievements and urged continued efforts to ensure effective safety oversight across all medical facilities.
The NNRA’s participation reaffirms its commitment to protecting patients, workers, and the public, while supporting national initiatives to strengthen radiation safety and cancer care in Nigeria.
