NNRA, SSZO COMMISSIONS ITS FIRST-EVER HEALTH AND SAFETY (FIRST AID) BAY

The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA), South-South Zonal Office, Port Harcourt, on August 11, 2025, commissioned its first-ever Health and Safety (First Aid) Bay, the first of its kind within the Authority. The facility is equipped with essential first aid supplies, a rest area, and basic medical apparatus to support health monitoring and the prompt management of emergencies. It will be manned by trained staff, with PAMO Teaching Hospital, Port Harcourt serving as a designated partner for emergency response and ambulatory services.

Speaking at the event, Zonal Coordinator Dr. Evelyn Vincent Furo described the Bay as a first-line response point for health emergencies and a symbol of NNRA’s duty of care to staff and visitors. The keynote speaker, Prof. Alikor Chizundu, Chief Medical Director of Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), pledged free CPR training for designated first aiders, while Pix Centre and Image Diagnostics also promised support through equipment donations and health services.

The commissioning, attended by distinguished guests including the representative of the NNRA DG/CEO, Dr. Benedict Esendu, marks a major step in the South-South Zone’s broader workplace health strategy, which includes regular medical check-ups, mental health awareness, and fitness campaigns—further reinforcing the Authority’s commitment to staff well-being and safety.
