NIGERIA HOLDS SECOND SERIES OF IN-SITU MEETING OF THE EU-INSC PROJECT

The second series of EU-INSC Project “Increased Capacity and Capability of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority NG3.01/22(INSC/2023/4466-1831) held from 19th- 23rd March 2024 in Abuja, Nigeria.

The objectives of the meetings Include:

  • Feedback on recommendation of meeting ISA1.1
  • Sharing European Union(EU) experience-regulatory framework for nuclear power in- Hungary
  • Identification of opportunities to further improve the regulatory framework
  • Discussions of the draft regulation on design and construction, review remarks, gaps and possibilities to proffer solutions to the available gaps  
  • Pilot elaboration of guidelines on two topics; Compliance requirement, and safety classification; that focuses on the consultants presentations and material that will be partially adopted to the Nigerian condition

The DG/CEO, Dr Yau Idris, was duly represented at the event by Mr.Farouk Ngawa, General Manager, Radiological Safety Department who encouraged the participants to be deliberate in their discussions and work towards achieving a success in the assignment.

Expert from the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority, Dr. Ferenc Adorjan, shared his wealth of knowledge and experience to ensure a successful reviewing of the NNRA’s regulation.

Participants for the week long workshop were drawn from the different departments of the Authority.
