The NNRA has about fifty (50) Technical Staff from different field of study. They come from scientific, technical, and professional disciplines. Most of these Technical Staff work at the Authority headquarters in Abuja. Others work at NNRA Regional Office in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and at the Institute at the University of |
Ibadan. There are ( 3) three major departments- Department of Radiological Safety comprising of Medical Applications Safety, Industrial & Research Application Safety and Waste Safety & Public Exposure; Department of Nuclear Safety, Physical Security and Safeguards comprising of Reactor Safety, Nuclear Security & Safeguards and Emergency Planning & Preparedness and theDepartment of Inspection, Authorization and Enforcement comprising of the Authorization, Library, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Quality Control unit and the Legal Unit. The NNRA has also established the National Institute for Radiation Protection and Research (NIRPR), at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State
The Technical Staff in these departments are saddled with the primary duties of ensuring that the statutory responsibility of NNRA which includes nuclear safety and radiological protection regulation is achieved. These vibrant, young and talented men and women remain committed to being a member of a competent and credible team in the discharge of their responsibilities. In line with the regulatory control programme of the NNRA, the technical staff conducts different types of inspection such as pre-authorization, audit, investigative, compliance, commissioning and pre-shipment inspections for the different practices in the country. They also participates in drafting practice-specific regulations and Code of practices; National and International trainings, workshops and weekly In-House seminars towards empowering them to be up to their task of emplacement of the best regulatory control regime for all activities involving Ionizing Radiation and Nuclear Energy in Nigeria. |
