Efforts by the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) to stop possible illicit trafficking of radioactive materials, in or out, of Nigeria has taken a giant step forward with the installation of the country’s first Radiation Portal Monitor (RPM).
The RPM which was installed in the Export Terminal of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc, Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, is indispensable in the detection of undeclared radioactive sources or nuclear materials as well as in the verification of manifested consignments entering or leaving the country through the terminal.
It was donated by the International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA), while the second one is now being installed by the Federal Government.
