Professor Timothy Chidozie Akpa is the current Director, Radiological Safety.
He has a Ph.D in Radiation Physics (ABU, 1993) and a PGD in Radiation Protection (Witts, 2000) an M.Sc in Radiation Biophysics (ABU, 1986) and a Bachelor of Science in Physics (UNN, 1981). He had specialist training in radiation protection and radioactive waste management in, Egypt (1986 and 1988)
He started his career in radiation protection as a research assistant in the Centre for Energy Research and Training, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1986 and rose to the position of research professor and chief radiation safety officer (CRSO) of Ahmadu Bello University in 2004. He earlier worked as Deputy Director, Radiological Safety at NNRA in 2006 before assuming the position of Director of Radiological Safety in NNRA.
Professor Akpa has coordinated the programme in radiation biophysics in Ahmadu Bello University from 1986 to 2009 and has spearheaded research programme in dosimetry and radiation protection leading to award of degrees to over 30 Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. He is a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Physics and a member of the Nigerian Association of Medical Physicists.
